MOOD BOARD - UNIFYING ELEMENTS

One story, different perspectives. Different looks, one language. In order the multiple visual approaches of FOOL THEM ONCE to cohesively play together, they must share universal characteristics which connect each style to the same universe and which allow for seamless overlap and transitions.

In broad brushstrokes, the visual language of the show primarily serves two goals:

1 - communicate the theme of personal truth;

2 - create a world with which audiences can personally identify, despite the period nature of the content.

We want viewers to feel the individual nature of each character. But we also want viewers to see themselves in the story.

To get there:

WHENEVER APPROPRIATE: NATURALISM

Feel of available light; organic compositions; human moments; doc-inspired b-roll.

COMPOSITION - REFLECTIONS

Reflections on surfaces of all kinds, connecting characters to each other and to the world around them. At times alluding to the hidden truth behind those images of ourselves we project into society, and those we paint of others.

DEVICE - AERIAL OVERHEADS

The contextual backdrop for this story is a nation in the grips of widespread hysteria. Subtext of aerial shots tells us that many other battles like the one our characters are engaged in, large and small, are raging across the country from neighborhood to neighborhood and home to home. Likewise, it tells us that the outcome of this story may affect so many others. Additionally, aerial overheads amplify the sense of being watched, a thematic refrain of this story: a government watching its citizens, citizens watching each other.
