The world the Kahn boys inhabit is even more close-up, immediate, and emotionally exaggerated than that of Albert and Riette.
Albert E. Kahn is a romantic idealist. He is a crusader for parity and universal human rights, over the cold mechanics of government. But he his not infallible; he can be demanding, hard-hard headed, and blind to the faults of his cause. Though Riette draws her own line between sacrificing for oneself and sacrificing for others, she and Albert bond over a shared love of all humanity and diverse communities. To them, it’s this love that makes the world go ‘round. That, and the fight to protect it, is what fuels the Kahn family.
